From an early age, Derrick was immersed in the world of weddings and celebrations, learning the art of gown making from his mother, the intricacies of wedding cakes from his aunt and great aunt, and the beauty of flowers from his great-grandmother. Some of his fondest childhood memories are of sitting on her lap, reading books on floral varieties and design, a foundation that continues to inspire his work today.

At just eight years old, Derrick entered his first floral competition at the county fair, taking first place and holding the title for 13 consecutive years. That dedication, talent, and commitment to excellence have defined his career ever since.

As the Founder and Creative Director of Taylor & Co Events, Derrick blends timeless traditions with a modern approach, creating elevated experiences that are as memorable as they are meaningful. Known for his meticulous attention to detail and unwavering pursuit of perfection, he has shaped Taylor & Co into one of Chicago’s premier boutique event houses, trusted to bring clients’ most important moments to life with beauty, grace, and heart.
