Taylor & Co Events: from family roots to floral & design mastery

Founded in 2011 by Derrick Taylor, a fourth-generation event professional, Taylor & Co carries forward a family legacy that began in 1942. Derrick’s great-grandmother and great-aunt baked wedding cakes, his great-grandmother was a florist, and his grandmother and mother crafted exquisite wedding gowns. Derrick’s own journey started at just eight years old in 4-H, where he learned to grow and arrange flowers he foraged or cultivated on his family’s Illinois farm. By 1990, Derrick was already designing wedding décor and went on to win Best in Show an incredible 13 consecutive years in state floral and cake competitions.

After moving to Chicago, Derrick sharpened both his design eye and his client-first approach as a senior designer at the legendary Marshall Field’s department store, where he embraced the timeless philosophy: “Give the lady what she wants.” This commitment to personalized, attentive, above-and-beyond service has become the heart of everything we do at Taylor & Co.

From there, Derrick rose to senior product designer for 1-800-Flowers, before founding Taylor & Co Events to create a luxury brand where creativity, craftsmanship, and client care come seamlessly together.

Today, Taylor & Co’s portfolio includes high-profile events such as décor for the White House, collaborations with celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Lady Gaga, and Paris Hilton, and thousands of weddings and galas across the country — even extending as far as Melbourne, Australia. We are proud to be the preferred décor partner for Chicago’s most prestigious luxury hotels and the national bridal market. In 2022, internationally acclaimed bridal designer Maggie Sottero honored Derrick’s influence by designing and naming a gown — The Derrick — after him, which has since become one of their best-selling styles.
